Neuledilemma

Miksi pyöröpuikoilla neuloessa jälki on selvästi epätasaisempaa kuin sukkapuikoilla? Senkö takia, että silmukat joutuvat sille kapealle letkulle hollille? Onko olemassa pyöröpuikkoja, joiden pyörö on samanpaksuinen kuin puikko-osa? Kysymyksiä, kysymyksiä.

My sacred life: day three

October 16th, 2007 by Maija

Once a week I work from home, which means that at lunch break I can go for a walk in the forest. And look what I stumbled upon! Red and blue. It’s unusual to find such stuff in the middle of a normal forest. I didn’t see mushrooms this red since a long time. It’s vibrant. Danger, danger!
The blue sign next to a small shrine dedicated to Virgin Mary someone had set up (for a reason, I presume) on the wall of a cave type of rock caught my attention in the middle of the forest. I’m not catholic so couldn’t say whether the blue colour means something, but it sure looks odd in the green and grey forest surrounding. Right above this sign there was a set of burnt candles. Someone keeps coming here.

The forest keeps surprising me.

Unikko

This looks so sweet on my son’s neck. The pattern is called Unikko and comes from the latest issue of Ulla.

I used some soft, acrylic yarn I found last spring at the local yarn store, and I love the colour. You can’t see it from the picture but it’s yellow with some dark grey and turquoise.

Very nice, fast knit, although I’m not a fan of the simple rib.

My sacred life: day two

October 14th, 2007 by Maija

I still cannot believe I actually live here. This amazing forest is just a couple of hundred metres away from my home. I’m so so so lucky.

My sacred life

October 13th, 2007 by Maija

The other day I stumbled upon My Sacred Life project.

I often don’t have time to appreciate things that happen to me every day, and even less time to document them. I doubt I’ll be able to update this daily, but I’ll try and pay attention. The set is available in Flickr.

Righty tighty lefty loosy

October 8th, 2007 by Maija

Check out this left vs. right brain test - I cannot make the lady dance anticlockwise no matter how hard I try. Means that apparently I am right-brained, although I always though of myself as rational rather than emotional. I must admit that I do tend to ignore details and try and see the big picture, whatever the situation.

Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. (George Eliot)

Sunday forest

Today was warm and sunny, so we decided to take a stroll in the forest. We found three or four different kinds of moss, mushroom, oak leaves and pine cones but funnily no acorns or pines anywhere close. We found mouse holes, bambi sleeping nests, gruffalo hollows, spiderwebs and bird houses.

Have to spend the night studying. I already feel guilty because I had to take two days off for the exam. I mean, guilty because of missed work. Grrh. Until tonight, however: relaxing. Relaxing. Old Mickey films are Very Much Worth Watching.

Paint splotches

Not much has been going on. It’s been a super busy week at work and it’s not going to get easier any time soon.

This is what we did yesterday:

  • Bought a super duper bagless vacuum cleaner (hurrah).
  • Aron painted with gouache colours.
  • Had coffee and ice creams in the nearby village. It was warm and sunny.
  • Ate home-made coleslaw (yes, I managed to prepare it all on my own).
  • Glued some pictures with Aron.
  • Vacuumed.
  • I took a glance at the MRP book on my shelf, with a view to the forthcoming course exam but, as usual, didn’t touch it.
  • Vacuumed some more.
  • I started knitting something small.
  • Watched a cartoon and ate home-popped pop corn which turned out too oily, too salty and partly burnt.
