Captain rooster

Captain rooster

I’ve never properly learned how to use Photoshop, and Illustrator even less. This is one of my first attempts with the pen tool. The rooster looks pompous, like he’s the captain of the herd flock - but the hens know better…

    This is really cute :)
I love the colours you used here, they work very well together.

It looks to me as if you are doing well with the program. My first (and only) attempt at digital art was a complete failure.

But I was raised on a farm, so I’d call it a flock of chickens, not a herd.

Thanks Marta for the correct wording.
Valeria - at one point, I had like a hundred different variations on the screen. Urgh, that’s definitely one of the cons of the digital medium; being able to tweak, tweak, tweak and not knowing when to stop with the colour variations.

    It’s so lovely!

the colors are really lovely. You achieved a wonderful expression on your captain regardless of experience with the program. that pen tool is a challenge to learn at first but well worth it.

For a first effort that is very good. Actually, it’s very good for a seasoned pro. Nice job.

Thats a great first effort with the pen tool. It took me about a month (part-time) working with the pen tool to get the hang of it.

In terms of the colours, personally I would have prefered them to be a little more intense/saturated.

Right now my problem is that I blackline everything and it looks like a kids coloring book. What I have in my head isn’t coming out right.

As a seasoned pro ;) using both programs, I can say that you have created a wonderful image. You have a great composition and color scheme. And there is a lot to be said about the simplicity of it. I tend to overwork and muddy an image. Great job and keep it up.

So cute! I love the roosters expression. So proud and vain. But still lighthearted. I agree the colours work very well.
